
After two-day academic discussion and exchange, the international conference “Cities of the Future - Technologies for Integrated Urban Water Management” held by International Water Association in collaboration with Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology came to a successful close in the afternoon of 17th September.
After opening ceremony, the conference realized academic exchange in various forms including technical sessions, workshops and posters, and provided a platform for more than 300 delegates all around the world to exchange their ideas on the topic of urban water environment. Besides, numerous renowned enterprises in water area and relevant government department principles were also involved in the workshops for further discussion.
The closing ceremony of the conference was held successfully in Xi’an Peoples’ Hotels on 17th September. Each chairman of technical sessions and workshops made brief summary on the academic exchange and presentations of their group.

In the closing ceremony, IWA executive director - Mr. Paul Reiter extended his warm congratulations on the successful conference. He said this conference is a big event held in China after “Beijing World Water Congress” held in 2006 organized by IWA, which was also one of the planned events under the IWA Cities of the Future (CoF) Program. Mr. Paul Reiter emphasized that this conference provided opportunities for systemi and deep academic exchange in the aspects of planning, management, technology and policy centered the theme “Cities of Future Water Environment”, and exerting a far-reaching impact on global urban water environment system construction and management. He also points that the international vision, meticulous preparations and persistent effort of XAUAT are the key factors to the success of the conference, and expressed his sincere appreciation for all the work and effort of the staff to the big event.

On 18th September, the participants joined the technical visit to Xi’an Siyuan University – an independent water system for wastewater treatment and maximized reuse for non-potable water supply. As one of the demonstration projects of “Water Pollution Control and Treatment”, the project left deep impression for all the attendants by its advanced design ideas, methods and practical effects of “Wastewater Minimized Discharge and Maximized Reuse”.
